3T (3ttt) · ref Mod. 1 Record Strada · 1970s – mid-1980s (in the 1974 catalog)
3ttt's Mod. 1 Record Strada, usually listed simply as a 3ttt Record stem, is the company's aluminum road quill stem of the 1970s and early 1980s and the usual alternative to the Cinelli 1A on Italian bikes. Velobase notes it appears in the 1974 catalog and records two versions. The first, from the 1970s, is stamped 3TTT – ITALY RECORD with the reach on the side and uses a 12 mm hex bar-clamp bolt. The second, from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s, drops the side stampings, carries 3ttt only on the nose, and uses 6 mm Allen bolts; one documented example weighs 314 g. Both use a conical expander. The bar clamp is normally 26.0 mm, which Sheldon Brown lists as the Italian standard for drop bars, not Cinelli's 26.4 mm, so a 3ttt stem with a Cinelli bar is a common mismatch; Velobase also records one early example at 25.4 mm, so measure before you buy. Quills were made at 22.2 mm for standard steerers and 22.0 mm for French frames. A later 3ttt stem simply called Record (model AR, from 1986) is a different design.
Buying guide
About 74 listings turn up, though the search also catches other 3ttt stems; most Mod. 1 Record stems run $65–150 delivered, and plain used ones with the clamp size in the title start around $32–48. Prioritise listings that state the reach, a 22.2 mm quill (unless your frame is French) and a 26.0 mm bar clamp, then check the clamp and binder-bolt boss for cracks. The later 3ttt Record (Record 84/AR) is a different design, NOS claims need packaging photos, and pantographed or Italian-shipped stems can cost two to three times more delivered.
