Campagnolo was started in 1933 by Tullio Campagnolo in Vicenza, Italy, and Sheldon Brown credits him with inventing the quick release. For vintage road buyers the core years run from the late 1960s to the mid 1990s. The Nuovo Record group, built around the aluminium 1020/A rear derailleur introduced around 1966, was the standard pro racing equipment for well over a decade. Super Record followed in 1973 with titanium bolts and lighter parts on a largely shared design, and Chorus arrived in 1988 as the group just below Record. Ergopower combined brake and shift levers appeared in the 1992 catalogue with 8-speed indexing. The useful thing for an eBay buyer is that Campagnolo marked its parts in ways that can be dated. Rear derailleurs carry year stamps on the b-knuckle, crank arms carry date codes, and brake quick-release levers changed shape in 1978. A group whose dates agree is worth more than one assembled from parts of different years, so read the stamps before you bid.
