Campagnolo · ref 1049 Record Strada, 144 mm BCD · 1967–1987
Part of the Campagnolo Nuovo Record groupset.
The Record Strada crank in its 144 mm bolt circle form is what most people mean by a Nuovo Record crankset. Velobase catalogues it as model 1049 from 1967 to 1987, with fluted arms and spider, lengths from 165 to 175 mm, 9/16 x 20 pedal threads and 22 x 1 mm extractor threads. The 144 mm BCD limits the inner ring to 41 teeth, so doubles like 52/42 and 53/42 are typical. Earlier Record Strada cranks from 1958 to 1966 used a 151 mm bolt circle and take different chainrings. The back of the arm is stamped with the length, the word Strada and a date code. Crank arms carry a small stamped year code from 1973: the last digit of the year sits in a diamond through the 1970s; for the early 1980s Classic Rendezvous describes the digit in a circle while the Vélo-Rétro timeline describes a two-digit code in a square from 1981, so read the code alongside the other dating clues. The crank fits a square-taper spindle; Sheldon Brown groups Campagnolo with the ISO taper, so use an ISO or Campagnolo spindle of the right length. Velobase lists spindles of about 112 mm for English-thread and 113 to 115.5 mm for Italian-thread Nuovo Record bottom brackets.
Buying guide
About 140 listings turn up, and most complete Nuovo Record Strada cranksets run $140–260 delivered, with dated sets around $150–165. Prioritise a stated 144 mm bolt circle (the 1958–66 cranks use 151 mm and take different rings), matching date codes on both arms, and intact pedal and 22 x 1 mm extractor threads. Plan on an ISO square-taper bottom bracket in your frame's thread, and expect boxed or NOS sets to cost two to four times the typical price.
