Campagnolo · ref 1035 Record high flange · 1960–1980s
Part of the Campagnolo Nuovo Record groupset.
Campagnolo's Record high-flange hub is catalogued by Velobase as model 1035, made from 1960 into the 1980s alongside the low-flange 1034. It has an aluminium shell, steel axle and cup-and-cone bearings, with nine 7/32-inch balls per side in the front and nine 1/4-inch balls per side in the rear. Hubs were drilled 24, 28, 32, 36 or 40 holes, and rear hubs were made in 120 mm spacing for 5-speed freewheels and 126 mm for 6-speed. Velobase lists the Record hub family in English/ISO, Italian and French freewheel threads. Sheldon Brown notes that English/ISO and Italian threads are generally interchangeable, but French is not and will damage the hub if forced. The quick-release levers date a set: straight before 1978 and curved afterwards. Super Record versions with titanium axles (4011 high flange, 4014 low flange) exist, and Velobase records a Schwinn Paramount version with extra holes drilled in the flanges.
Buying guide
About 112 listings turn up, and they mix single front hubs, single rear hubs and front-and-rear sets, so compare like with like: single front hubs at fixed prices run about $120–200 delivered here, and the two sets about $186. For any rear hub, check two things before anything else: the freewheel thread (English/ISO and Italian generally interchange, but French does not and will damage the hub if forced) and the spacing, 120 mm for 5-speed or 126 mm for 6-speed, against your frame. Ask about rough spots when the axle turns and look for cracks between spoke holes. Treat 'NOS' claims as unproven until you see box or packaging photos.
