Campagnolo · ref 4061 (standard reach); 4061/1 (short reach) · 1974–1987
Part of the Campagnolo Super Record (1st gen) groupset.
Super Record brakes are catalogued by Velobase as set 4061, with 4061/1 as the short-reach version, from 1974 to 1987. Mechanically they are the same single-pivot side-pull as the Nuovo Record 2040. Velobase describes the first version (1974–1982) as identical to Nuovo Record apart from aluminium pad holders, though a reader has disputed whether the photographed set shows them. The second version (1983–1987) has Campagnolo script on the arms and a date code on the back, and was offered with nutted or recessed mounting. The clearest Super Record feature is the lever, not the caliper: the 4062 brake lever has a drilled blade, while the Nuovo Record 2030 lever is undrilled. Pre-1983 Super Record levers show the Campagnolo globe logo on the hood; after 1983 they carry the shield logo. The same 1978 safety changes apply here as on Nuovo Record, so flat quick-release levers indicate an early set.
Buying guide
About 824 listings turn up, but that count includes modern Super Record parts; vintage caliper pairs mostly sell for $140–260 delivered. The calipers are mechanically the same single-pivot side-pull as the Nuovo Record 2040, which is why several listings are titled 'Record / Super Record'. The clearest Super Record tell is the 4062 lever with a drilled blade, so don't pay a premium for calipers alone unless they are a second-version set (1983–87) with Campagnolo script and a date code. Measure your reach (standard or short) and check nutted versus recessed mounting; flat quick-release levers mean a pre-1978 set.
