SunTour · ref Cyclone Mark-II (3500; GT long cage 3700) · from 1981
Disraeli Gears dates the Cyclone Mark-II to 1981, which makes it the second generation of SunTour's Cyclone. Sheldon Brown's SunTour history says the original Cyclone was introduced in 1975 as SunTour's new top model. The Mk II is plain and light: Disraeli Gears weighed the short-cage 3500 at 164 grams and calls it one of the lightest derailleurs in its collection. It has printed rather than embossed branding, Allen bolts for the pulleys and cable clamp, and a slightly grey silver anodizing. Disraeli Gears sees it as SunTour's answer to Shimano's aerodynamic Dura-Ace AX. Like every SunTour rear derailleur, it uses the slant parallelogram SunTour patented in 1964, so the guide pulley follows the freewheel profile as it moves. The short cage takes 28 teeth of total capacity, and the GT version (3700) has a 66 mm cage for 34-tooth sprockets. It is a friction-era design, so it is fine with any freewheel spacing on a friction or ratchet lever. Don't expect it to index with modern shifters.
Buying guide
About 210 listings turn up for the search, but only a handful name the Mk II, so most results are the original 1970s Cyclone, the later Cyclone 7000 or other parts; the true Mk II units here run about $40–60 delivered. Look for the Mark-II marking and printed graphics, and match the cage to your gearing: the short-cage 3500 takes 26–30 teeth depending on hanger length, while the long-cage GT (3700) takes 34. It's a friction-era derailleur, so pair it with friction or ratchet levers and any freewheel spacing. Skip NOS claims at $260 unless the seller shows the packaging.
